To compliment our mission of creating a community around a shared belief of equality for all, some of Equali Tees products are connected to causes that seek to aid and empower people in historically oppressed communities.

In the case of The Root, our mission is to connect the African diaspora with the continent of Africa. We've partnered with Gabrielle Oakley, founder of Stella and Throne Soapery, and TLC alum and social activist Vanessa Cobbs for a campaign called The Journey Home. As a collaboration between the three partners and individuals and organizations, the campaign seeks to secure ancestral DNA kits for African Americans on an educational journey. In the near future, we will be announcing more information about specific people and institutions that we'll be working with. In the meantime, please check out the products that help make this all possible!

A

WORD

From Our Founder:

"When I realized the positive implications of knowing my identity before slavery and the impact that such knowledge could have on my life, I decided that I wanted to take an ancestral DNA test. After doing research into the different options I decided that African Ancestry was the best way to go. African Ancestry is the only company of its kind that can connect people of African descent to a specific tribe in modern-day Africa. Because African Ancestry doesn't sell information or use your DNA for purposes of financial gain, their kits are a bit more costly than others. Realizing the barrier this could create for people, I decided to connect one of our shirts to the cause. I am thrilled to be able to help give people the experience of knowing their history."
